Success Goal-Setting Checklist

The Ground Rules for Successful Goal-Setting

Most people know how to write down their goals, but few know how to achieve them. Below are some guidelines to help you to achieveing actual results in the areas of your life in which you dedicate yourself.

1. Don't just think it, INK it.
Unless you write them down, goals are often lost in the shuffle and excitement of new problems and challenges.

2. Suspend reality.
Don't judge your goals or let your abilities or resources get in the way. If you had every skill and resource in the world, what would you set out to do? Let if flow.

3. Think big.
Michelangelo said, "The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it." What's the one goal that makes your palm sweat?

4. State goals in the positive.
Don't focus on problems, focus on what you want. Say, "I have a positive net worth of X by X (date)" versus "I want to get out of debt."

5. State goals in the "I am."
Write your goals in the first person.

6. Be sure your goals are your goals.
If your goals are influenced by the expectations of others and are not from your heart, don't waste your time; you won't have the spirit or passion to achieve them.

7. Make sure your goals align with your values.
Don't sacrifice your core values for a goal that isn't worth it.
